Welcome to our home on the lake.

Finding this place was a total synchronicity. We could never have imagined it. We were looking for property on water . . . but we never considered a mobile home on a lake!

Especially one that needs a total renovation!

This place is our first step in taking a big leap and moving to Southern Oregon. We came for a month to get a sense of the area and look at property on the Rogue River. Our original intention was to find property to build our dream downsized “small” house with a couple of ADU’s to Airbnb on a river. Once we realized it would take some time to get familiar with the area and find a perfect location, we knew we needed to find an interim home base.

First we thought of living in an RV and then thought about buying a mobile home. On the first day of our search we magically stumbled across this amazing opportunity. A 1972 Barrington double wide mobile home on a small lake for a shockingly low price. It was an estate sale and the seller was very motivated. Since it required a total remodel he was having trouble selling it. The outside is in good shape, it has been wood sided and has all new double pane windows, but the inside was still in the 70’s. Most people were looking for move-in ready. Not us. We could both see the amazing potential and jumped in with both feet! Remodeling and restoring is in our blood!

The kitchen is behind this wall.

It took less than a week to complete the purchase. All the while we were making plans. We knew we needed to open up the kitchen (there was a big wall blocking the lake view), and both bathrooms needed to be gutted. I started a Pinterest board, you can see it here. The ideas started coming together very quickly.

Honestly, we have had a few moments of “What  the heck are we getting ourselves into!”

But we quickly regrouped and realized this project is going to be fun and profitable. I love a good project. It all happened so fast we just needed to get our heads around it! Each day we get more and more clarity.

Take a look around and see where we are starting. This blog/video series will follow our progress of transforming this 1972 mobile home into a lake side retreat!
